Step 5: Start Writing Your Blog

Once you have given the desired layout and designed your blog accordingly, it’s time to start writing. As I said before, there are numerous people who are writing blogs, so the content of your blog is very important. You don’t need to write a flowery language to attract the readers. Your writing must have a simple and short approach so that it is easy for your readers to understand what you are exactly trying to say.

There are some basic principles for writing that are described below:

1) Keep the Target Audience in Your Mind

A blog becomes successful when it takes care of the likes and dislikes of its target audience. Whether you have a food blog or technology blog, it is your reader’s interest that makes your blog progress. You can do a quick research for the similar blogs and make out what type of content is getting popular on those sites. For example, if you have a food blog, you need to keep updating the new innovative recipes for your readers. Or, if you have a fashion blog, you need to be updated for latest fashion trends and write about them in an interesting manner. It becomes more important when you have more than one categories in your blog as you need to keep a track on a number of things at the same time.

2) Think About the Topic

A lot of ideas might be running in your head, but not every idea is executable. You need to brainstorm about the topics and then analyse them for various aspects like the range of audience, relevance in present time, effects, niche of your blog, etc. At this point of time, you should decide a working title for your article based on the initial idea. It will help you have a more focused and elaborate writing. You can further change this title to a catchy phrase. But for now, work with this one only.

3) Introduce the Topic of Your Article

Mostly, writers start their articles with an introduction of the topic. However, you should not end the curiosity of the readers in the very beginning. Rather, you should go the other way around. On the Internet, it is very important to hold the reader’s interest as they have many options available here. Therefore, give a brief intro of the topic but, do not kill the suspense. However, in informative articles, you can stick to standard introduction writing, but a lifestyle blog can never succeed with such kind of writing process.

The first paragraph of your article should be the most attention-grabbing as it will decide whether or not the user will read the whole article. Having a tedious introduction can push your readers away from your blog. Try to connect with the readers through interactive writing. Research more about the topic and write in an elaborate manner but without being boring.

5) Organize the Content

With a load of information, it might be very difficult to manage the content. For keeping the readers interested in your article, you can organize its content in a proper manner. It makes the article look shorter than its real length and less tedious. You can go for the articles having lists or tips. It will keep the readers curious to find what will be the next point about.

The more you divide your article into sections, the more sorted and understandable it will be. Also, it improves your research as you tend to research about every point separately. You can achieve this kind of writing by outlining the article before you start to write. Keep in mind the general order and hierarchy of the article.

6) Write, Write and Write!

Once you have outlined the article and decided the kind of intro you want to have for it, you can start to write the actual content of the article. You have already noted down all the required points for the article, do more research on them and have a comprehensive content.

The most important thing for online writing is that it should not be plagiarized. Try to publish the original and genuine content on your blog as copying may lead to legal troubles. You should also double-check the facts and information provided in the articles.

The good thing about blog writing is, it doesn’t have journalistic filters so you can express your ideas without any hurdle. It becomes easier when you have a personal blog as you hold all the authorities for the blog and no one can stop you from writing what you want to.

Although you need to take care of the readers sentiments, in case, you are writing on a sensitive issue. Don’t fear the abusive comments as it comes naturally when your blog gets popular and it is in your hands, which comment you want to show on your blog and which not. Also, try not to be too harsh or abusive as your site may get blocked. It may also decrease the traffic on your blog. Try to be straightforward but, not cruel!

7) Add Media (Images, Videos, Graphics, etc.)

A plain writing may not work wonders for your blog. You need images, videos, and graphics to support the written content. All of these media tools help attract more readers rather than the simple text. These images, videos or graphics should be relevant to your article. You should also take care of their size and resolution. When you are taking images from other sites, provide their sources to save yourself from copyright. While making your own graphics, try to research more and provide the actual figures. Keep a balance between the text and media to make your article captivating.

8) Format Your Article

A better formatting makes your article more eye-catching. No matter how well the content is written, if it is not properly formatted, readers will not like to read it. An unpleasant format of the blog tarnishes the greatest content provided on it. Choose a relevant and catchy featured image for your article so that it attracts the readers at once. Check the visual appearance of the article and make sure that it doesn’t look ugly.

9) Edit and Proofread the Article

Editing is a tougher task than writing as you need to see the whole article as one and not line by line. If there are fanciful sentences which are not serving the aim of the article, remove them. You should also take care of repetitions as it irritates the reader when they read the same thing over again and again. It is better that editing is done by someone else than the writer as s/he may not be able to find his/her own mistakes.

Recheck the resolution and relevance of images and authenticity of facts used in the article. Combine or break the sentences (as per requirement) to enhance the understandability. Check the spellings and grammar of the article along with the sentence structure and punctuation.

10) Include Keywords and Decide Tags

Keywords are very important for online writing as they help optimize your article for search engines. Include the required keywords to it but do not overload your article with them. You also need to decide a few tags for the article. They should cover the key points of it.

11) Choose a Catchy Title

Deciding the title for your article consumes the most brain power and time. Your title should be catchy but not cheap. You should not sound desperate from your title. It should be creative yet simple. The title should not reveal all the information about the article. At the same time, it should not be totally cryptic that it leaves the readers clueless about the context of the article.

After going through this step, you might have understood that writing is not an easy task. Well, that’s not all; you also need a lot of promotion and marketing strategies to make your blog successful. They are discussed in the next steps. Click here to go to Step no. 6.
